Berit is a German-born researcher, musician and composer, who studied Systematic Musicology at the University of Hamburg and Electroacoustic Composition at the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

She received her M.A. from the University of Hamburg for her thesis ‟Cognitive representation of reverberating rooms and spaces” in 2009. Since then, she has worked as a researcher and software developer for STEIM, Amsterdam and as a production assistant in the Digital Art Lab, Zoetermeer, for the Patching Zone.

Her primary research interests are the perception and categorization of sound and music. She has joined the Tunes&Tales project as a promovendus, and is busy researching the variation of folk tunes through oral transmission by investigating melody categories, pattern recognition and computational modelling of melody perception.
