Andreas works as a PhD student in the project ‘The Riddle of Literary Quality.’ He received a BSc in artificial intelligence and a MSc in logic, both from the university of Amsterdam. His work focuses on computational linguistics; more specifically statistical parsing. His master’s thesis was on parsing with discontinuous constituents. His main aim is to extend the currently successful statistical parsing models to be able to deal with richer representations and linguistic phenomena. In the context of ‘The Riddle of Literary Quality’ this involves adapting current parsers to the domain of literary texts, with the end goal of being able to compare the syntactic structures in different kinds of literary texts.
